Eating the rainbow Posted on Dec 6, 2021, 10:12 am
Making pasta from scratch is actually really easy and it doesn’t take all that much time and I honestly don’t know why we don’t do this a lot more often, which is a thing I say every time we have made pasta in the past (roughly only once a year), so clearly this is not a lesson that is sticking.

Chilled Posted on Dec 5, 2021, 1:12 pm
This time I planned ahead...

Baked in a pie Posted on Dec 4, 2021, 10:12 am
A terrine pie, by the way, is made in layers and wrapped in a crust, so that when it’s baked, it should hold its shape, and when sliced, you should be able to see the layers. Let’s see how that went!

Mars has nothing to worry about Posted on Dec 3, 2021, 10:12 am

Oh honey Posted on Dec 3, 2021, 9:12 am

Dainty and Delicious Posted on Dec 1, 2021, 10:12 am
...and when we did our trip to Ireland back in 2006 I made a point of ordering it every where I could, until I was probably composed entirely of sticky toffee pudding by the end.

I didn't eat the entire batch all in one sitting, although I may have thought about it really, really hard.

So I pondered some more and eyed those tiny tart pans that have been so useful so far this month...

Didn't we do this already? Posted on Feb 20, 2018, 11:02 am

Minty Posted on Feb 11, 2018, 7:02 pm
Do not skimp on the powdered sugar, by the way, because otherwise this stuff will stick like *crazy*. Also a bench scraper is totally your friend if that happens. Possibly I speak from experience. Mayyyyybe.

Roly-poly Posted on Feb 10, 2018, 6:02 pm

Melted Posted on Feb 6, 2018, 11:02 am
So…ready for this highly complicated recipe that combines both important celebrations?

Numeric Posted on Feb 28, 2017, 7:02 pm
I know a lot of people don’t like math, and a lot of knitters get super nervous when math is required, but one of the very big reasons why I love knitting so much is that it is entirely wrapped up in math.

A thing I do Posted on Feb 28, 2017, 12:02 pm
I realized I haven’t actually talked about this at all, either here, or anywhere else I’m online, so…hey. I do a new thing now (that is yarn-related, because of *course* it is).

Do I know how to party or what.

Brake Posted on Feb 20, 2017, 9:02 am
It wasn't until today that we found out what had happened.

Thingadailies Day 18 Posted on Feb 20, 2017, 9:02 am
Ah well.

Easily amused Posted on Feb 19, 2017, 11:02 pm
Because I am a well-trained human, I immediately flattened the paper out and laid it down on the floor (it stretches a good four to five feet in length), and then we sat back and waited for the inevitable.

The manner to which he is accustomed Posted on Feb 17, 2017, 1:02 pm
...which is a bonus because see above re. keeping him from destroying the house, and they are his very faithful minions.

Commuting Posted on Feb 16, 2017, 11:02 am
And then on the way home I got stuck in construction related traffic, which wasn’t nice at all.

Warm Front Posted on Feb 14, 2017, 9:02 am
I kept wracking my brain, trying to figure out what I might have done that led to me feeling so poorly, until it finally dawned on me that oh, right, the *weather* happened.

Multi-tasking Posted on Feb 12, 2017, 8:02 pm
...and then it was back to the pastry cream, which required constant stirring, because of *course* it did.

Airy Posted on Feb 12, 2017, 2:02 pm
(although we shall not discuss the rather glaring lack of uniformity in shape and size. Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood would be so disappointed)

In deep R'lyeh... Posted on Feb 11, 2017, 6:02 pm
I’m sure there’s a Lovecraft joke to be made here somewhere.

Entry List Posted on Feb 9, 2017, 9:02 pm
1) Unlock door but do not open yet, no really, don’t do it.

Or should that be 'caw-cophony'? Posted on Feb 9, 2017, 11:02 am
I didn’t do such a great job of blocking it (*there’s* a surprise, cough cough not)...

Water falling down Posted on Feb 8, 2017, 1:02 pm
...it has begun to feel a bit as if we really ought to be investing in small boats, in preparation for the impending flood.

Yo ho ho or something Posted on Feb 7, 2017, 1:02 am
Ahoy, Captain! Thar be kraken off the port bow!

Picots Posted on Feb 6, 2017, 12:02 am
...shockingly, someone came up with something entirely new to do with the zombie genre...

I shall name them all Casper Posted on Feb 5, 2017, 4:02 pm
(And now you’re giving it a closer look, aren’t you. You’re welcome.)

Toasty Posted on Feb 4, 2017, 6:02 pm
...my mind went immediately (as it often does any time I ponder appliances/furniture/what-not for the house) to how this would work in a house full of cats.

Or should they be called 'Freedom Pancakes'? Posted on Feb 4, 2017, 12:02 pm
Crepes are one of those things that are unnecessarily fiddly (okay, let’s face it, a *lot* of French baking is unnecessarily fiddly) because the batter is nothing more than regular pancake batter to which someone accidentally added too much liquid.

You only think this is deja vu Posted on Feb 1, 2017, 10:02 pm
Oh look, it’s February! And we all know what that means!

Getting into the spirit Posted on Dec 23, 2016, 9:12 pm
We put up the tree today.

Delicate balance Posted on Dec 10, 2016, 6:12 pm
I am not sure how I feel about the fact that a massive piece of machinery capable of traveling great distances through the sky can be apparently be brought down by 24 people sitting in the wrong spot.

Pre-caffeine Posted on Dec 8, 2016, 9:12 am
STOP JUDGING ME hotel bathroom scale.

Room with a view Posted on Dec 8, 2016, 8:12 am
Right at eye level.

En route Posted on Dec 7, 2016, 10:12 am
Is this a potential career option I hadn't ever considered?

It's the little things Posted on Dec 5, 2016, 2:12 pm
Because nothing says Happy Holidays like cats plotting your slow and painful demise!

Pretend the one with the golf club is orange Posted on Dec 3, 2016, 9:12 am
... our house looks even more Scrooge-like in its stubborn non-lit darkness, and this is the time of year when I am grateful that I do not listen to the radio in my car...

Oh look, it's that time of year again Posted on Dec 2, 2016, 12:12 pm
I hope you’re prepared for a whole lot of blather about knitting, and cats, interspersed with the occasional ramble about baking or singing, oh, and also, special for this year, now with bonus politics-based frothing at the mouth...

Boing Posted on Feb 29, 2016, 9:02 pm
Do you know what today is?

Technicality Posted on Feb 29, 2016, 12:02 pm
By this time it was late and we were all getting a bit punchy and then someone came up with An Idea.

Yarning Posted on Feb 28, 2016, 1:02 pm
So instead of lying there in bed, wide-awake and grumpy, I decided it was better to just get up and drink coffee and do something productive, like make a snowflake.

There is no yarn in space Posted on Feb 26, 2016, 8:02 pm
It is, by the way, worth reading the book for just the chapter on pooping in space alone.

Clumpy Posted on Feb 25, 2016, 10:02 am
There were a LOT of clusters, which translates to “bigger lumps than picots”, in case you were wondering and I am sure you were.

Tilt Posted on Feb 24, 2016, 9:02 am
Also if you look closely, you might notice there’s cat hair under this snowflake. Gee, I wonder how *that* got there, Ingrid.

Mostly Posted on Feb 23, 2016, 10:02 am
The fact that this also comes on a day when I have rehearsal in the evening, which means even *less* time to fiddle with stupid snowflakes, wasn't very helpful either.

Counting Posted on Feb 22, 2016, 11:02 am
Do you know what is even more fun than picking up 500+ stitches and knitting a whole mess of colorwork?

Possibly it would have been faster to walk Posted on Feb 21, 2016, 10:02 am
Three hours later we had only made it as far as Walnut Creek, at which point we gave up, pulled off at the next exit, and found somewhere to eat dinner.

It's a good thing I'm easily amused Posted on Feb 19, 2016, 12:02 am
But the problem, of course, is that once it’s in your head, you cannot *un*think it...

Stormy Posted on Feb 18, 2016, 9:02 am
This is one where I looked at the directions and thought rather grouchily to the designer ‘Really? you’re putting that stitch *there*? You’re being deliberately difficult, aren’t you.’

Storage Space Posted on Feb 17, 2016, 10:02 am
But we all know how *that* will end, now don’t we.

It's all downhill from here Posted on Feb 16, 2016, 1:02 am
At least this time I didn’t have to chase Sherman around outside when I got home, though, so at least there’s that.

Heartless Posted on Feb 15, 2016, 9:02 am
I suppose I could have flipped through the book to find one with hearts or something that is otherwise Valentine’s Day-ish, but I am doing these in order primarily because there are 99 of them and if I mix them up I will forget which is which and then where will we be?

Outlier Posted on Feb 14, 2016, 1:02 am
Years from now, when the zombie apocalypse is over and the neighborhood is deserted, it will morph into a healthy pecan orchard, and this is why.

I am my own weathervane Posted on Feb 13, 2016, 12:02 pm
Well, until it was trampled by a cat, because that is the way of things in this house.

Schlump Posted on Feb 12, 2016, 1:02 am
Clearly the take-away from this is that I have much more practicing to do before I can be trusted to make snowflakes with others.

Winged Posted on Feb 10, 2016, 10:02 am
It is not all test knitting and snowflakes around here.

Adrenaline rush Posted on Feb 9, 2016, 1:02 am
Do you know what is a really great way to relax and unwind after an extremely long and exhausting day?

Thunderbolts and lightning Posted on Feb 7, 2016, 2:02 pm
I watched this and it occurred to me that they should set up a carousel where they play *this.

Brains Posted on Feb 7, 2016, 1:02 am
If you like science, and anatomy, and also have a passing fancy for zombies, I highly recommend it.

Two for the price of one Posted on Feb 6, 2016, 2:02 am
But hey, kudos to whoever coordinates the security checkpoint lines at the Atlanta airport – it had the feel of a Disney ride. You weave around for a bit and then you turn a corner and just when you think you might finally be getting close to the end, nope, there’s another forty five minutes of slowly zigzagging along.

And I would walk 10,000 steps...* Posted on Feb 3, 2016, 8:02 pm
One should never underestimate the allure of mythical brownie points.

Lopsided Posted on Feb 2, 2016, 10:02 pm
They say no two snowflakes are alike, so surely among all the pretty ones there also have to be the rejects too.

Thingadailies: Let it snow Posted on Feb 1, 2016, 10:02 am
So what better way to do it than with crochet cotton (size 30, in case you are wondering and I am sure you are), a 1.9 mm needle, and a book of snowflake patterns?

Ushering in Posted on Jan 1, 2016, 11:01 am
Today is the day I have, for the past few years, posted a cheerful little tale, complete with pictures, for how we’ll be meeting our doom.

Alone Posted on Dec 31, 2015, 10:12 am
....possibly there was a lot of very hysterical laughing going on. Possibly.

Escapades Posted on Dec 31, 2015, 10:12 am
January’s high priority – figuring out a way to screen in the front porch in order to create a cat-proof airlock.

Staging Posted on Dec 30, 2015, 11:12 am
...here is where I have to giggle because when I travel, I make sure to always bring yarn with me, while when she travels, apparently she likes to bring baking paraphernalia with her, like her favorite cookie scoop, and pastry bags and tips, and so on.

Abode Posted on Dec 20, 2015, 10:12 am
Clearly this was $5 well spent.

Santa-fied Posted on Dec 19, 2015, 11:12 pm
...it was nice to see there were just a few other similarly clad people also taking part.

Soaring Posted on Dec 19, 2015, 10:12 am
...it was nice to end it on a high note (pun intended, hah).

Gustatory Posted on Dec 17, 2015, 1:12 pm
I have *finally* found a recipe with lentils where the lentils did not take over everything with their very boring lentilness.

Melodious Posted on Dec 16, 2015, 1:12 pm
Two more Vox Musica concerts down; only one more to go.

All the things Posted on Dec 13, 2015, 10:12 am
...the condition of the house (both upstairs and down) has started to reach what might politely be called ‘my god, what *is* that?’.

Tart Posted on Dec 12, 2015, 1:12 pm
I have now made it through roughly 1/100th of the lemons on the damn tree. Okay. Perhaps I exaggerate. Maybe it’s really closer to 1/99th.

All of us the same Posted on Dec 10, 2015, 10:12 am
...and it reminds me that, despite all the ugliness and racism and hatred being embraced so fervently by some segments of the population in the US, that the vast majority of us are still good and kind and decent people who are trying to find some way to help.

Pieces Posted on Dec 9, 2015, 10:12 am
...so *obviously* what you need is a way to waste a whole lot of time.

Decor Posted on Dec 8, 2015, 10:12 am
Part 4 – Stand back, and wait a couple seconds. Ah…..there we go.

Sidelined Posted on Dec 7, 2015, 12:12 am
...and then I decided by golly, I ought to attempt to do something vaguely festive to the house, and as any home canner knows, if you’ve been canning long enough you start to collect an awful lot of jar rings...

Back to Back Posted on Dec 6, 2015, 10:12 am
(I, by the way, was not the only one sporting a knitted hat)

Atop Posted on Dec 5, 2015, 10:12 am
As I suspected, I look, with the hat on, a bit like one of the burglars from Home Alone, if one of the burglars happened to have a thing for red and lace. Ah well. At least it'll be warm.

More than the days of the year Posted on Dec 3, 2015, 11:12 pm
All of this is to say that I had something fun and whimsical to share for today’s internet thing, but shockingly, I don’t feel very fun or whimsical.

Where the wild things are Posted on Dec 2, 2015, 10:12 am
Okay, possibly only until I run out of coffee, but work with me here.

That time again Posted on Dec 2, 2015, 12:12 am
And now I think I’ve milked that metaphor wayyyy longer than was necessary.
